250 West Street Health Center, Feature Stair Design

Madsen Engineering was retained by the steel manufacturer YSL Iron Works to design the feature stair for the new fitness club located at the base of this luxury condominium in Tribeca. The stair stringer is a slender, exposed 6x4 steel tube that is not slanted but follows the shape of the stairs. Stone treads support exposed steel tube stringers custom fabricated of welded pieces that follow the profile of the stairs. A tempered glass railing is also connected to the steel stringers.
Madsen designed the stair structure and the glass railing, drafted shop drawings and provided a detailed calculation book for the base building engineer.
