The 2022 NYC Building Code In Effect on November 7

The 2022 NYC Construction Codes went into effect on November 7, 2022. The new codes include the NYC Building Code, Fuel Gas, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. We are proud to be a small part of the team that put together the code. Both Erik and Cristian were members of the Structural Committee. They are both acknowledged in the new Building Code.

As DOB writes in the Dedication portion of the code: β€œThe publication of the 2022 New York City Construction Codes is the culmination of many thousands of hours, invested by 500+ committee members over six years, to review, discuss and to finally reach consensus on an updated set of construction provisions, tailored specifically to the unique urban environment of our city, at this point in our history. New York City, the Department of Buildings, and the Code Development and Technical Affairs team are indebted to all the individuals who came together and gave voluntarily of their time and experience to design a set of codes which will help create a safer city environment for our residents, workers, and visitors.”

Additionally, the Department is also developing the new Existing Building Code, that specifically addresses alterations to existing buildings. The first draft has been completed and reviewed by the committees - Erik and Cristian are also part of the Structural Technical Committee for the new Existing Building Code.
