The Bellaire School Art Installation

the bellaire school Art Installation
corona, NY

Madsen Engineering worked with sculptor and installation artist Rita McBride, to design the structural support of a 100 linear feet permanent art installation that will stand in the entrance lobby of the newly constructed Public School #315Q in Corona, Queens. The art installation is visible both from the school’s library and the street.

The school building, designed by Skidmore, Ownings & Merrill, uses color in ways that allude to the Tiffany factory that was located on the school’s site from 1901 to 1932. The artist uses several hundred shards of Tiffany glass that were found during site excavation. The art installation was featured in a New York Times article in April 2013.
